Walk from Dartmouth to Blackpool Sands
Dartmouth Area
Directed by: Andrew Maries & Christopher Helyer
A great opportunity to join friends associated with RSCM Devon for a bit of fresh air and exercise walking the coastal path from Dartmouth, southwards to Blackpool Sands, interspersed with visits to sing and worship in three historic churches on the way there and back. The walk is ‘moderate’ in terms of stamina with the longest stretch of 3.4 miles, if for any reason that becomes too much, there is a number 3 bus to Dartmouth due at 13.53 (and then 18.33).
Parking is best at the Park and Ride above Dartmouth town running at 10m intervals. From the drop off at the Embankment, the walk to St Petroc’s takes about 30m which should be factored in. (Walk along the road above the river South out of Dartmouth and take the left to cross the bridge and follow along the river towards the sea. As the road goes up hill through the trees, veer left along the footpath to reach the church)
10.30am Dartmouth Embankment to St Petroc’s (1.2mls, 30m)
11.00am Gather St Petrox for opening worship (20m)
11.20 - 12.40pm St Petrox to Stoke Fleiming via coastal path (3.3mls, 1 hr 20m)
12.40 - 13.00pm Midday Worship at St Peter's (20m)
13.00 - 13.20pm Stoke Fleming to Blackpool Sands (0.7ml, 20m)
13.20pm - Lunch at beach (55m)
[Optional extension for the overactive(!) Blackpool to Strete on the coast path (1.4ml, 30m)
14.35pm - leave for Dartmouth (1hr 10m, 3.4mls)
15.45pm arrive back at St Clement’s Dartmouth for closing worship (20m)
16.05pm – tea and cakes
16.35pm Depart for Park & Ride
[Total mileage (without extension to Strete) - 8.6mls with breaks ]
It would be helpful to have an idea of numbers by Friday May 18th
Please send an email, telephone, or drop a note to Joy Winzer giving details of the Name, Email and Phone number of the main contact, plus names of adults in your party, and names and ages of any under 18. Children under 18 must be accompanied by a parent.
